The CSCA Lab of EUC invites you to a workshop with Geert Vermeire
24 October 2016
6:00pm-9:00pm at the Graphic Design Studios of EUC
Part I | 6:00 pm - 7.30 pm: Introduction to the project and presentation of up-to-date results of the Urban Emptiness Network (urbanemptiness.org): an interdisciplinary investigation of emptiness and silence in contemporary cities. Focusing on mobile media and embodied practices, the Urban Emptiness project enables the creation-research laboratory about the relations between walks and movements, sounds and silences, digital and bodily spaces. The aim is to highlight the importance of real and imaginary and/or hidden landscapes in the urban environment and explore different conditions of intimacy in understanding these landscapes.
7:30 pm – 7:50pm: Break
Part II | 7.50 pm – 9:00 pm: This second part the workshop will focus on the use of mobile media in the actions of the network so far. The Urban Emptiness project intends to explore critically how bodies and technologies work together to produce new practices of public space and movement. The project wants to expand the concept of stillness by advocating for practices of pauses, of slowing down and dwelling in our everyday lives, as well as of the notion that our interactions and uses of technology and mobile devices produce a social space. The workshop will conclude with a hands-on session and demonstration of Echoes, a platform for making location-based experiences.
